Rossi almost made Roma switch, says agent

Villarreal forward Giuseppe Rossi was nearly involved in a last-minute transfer to Roma, his agent Federico Pastorello has revealed.

Although having previously said his client would remain at Villarreal until at least the end of the current campaign, the Italy international's representative admits he almost swapped clubs at the end of August.

"Roma? Rossi had given the all-clear to the move, but then it never quite materialised," Pastorello told Sky Sports Italia.

"There were several clubs who showed an interest, but at this moment we mustn't be in a rush."

Rossi, who has been out of action since October 2011 due to several anterior cruciate ligament injuries, is not expected to make his return for another five months.

"Another operation is planned between September 20 and 25. If everything goes well, then he will go into the third bout of surgery," Pastorello said.

"It'll take around five months to see him back on the field."

Rossi was expected to be a part of Italy's plans for Euro 2012 prior to his injury woes.

Lopez pleased with Betis move

Real Betis has confirmed the signing of former Villarreal fullback Angel Lopez on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old left the Yellow Submarine after its relegation in the northern summer and has been without a club ever since.

He passed his medical with the Seville club earlier on Thursday and subsequently posted a picture on Twitter of himself signing his contract.

The picture was accompanied by the words: "Excited to get to a big club! I'm looking forward to it. Mucho Betis!"

Angel, who won five senior caps for Spain in 2006 and 2007, missed much of last season with a torn cruciate ligament but his new club confirmed: "Angel arrives in optimum fitness, offering very satisfactory data in the medical examination."

He has played over 200 games in the Primera Division during his career and can operate in either fullback position or as a holding midfielder.
