Leverkusen open Schurrle door.

Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed they will consider approaches for reported Chelsea target Andre Schurrle but the Bundesliga club do not want to comment on speculation.

Premier League giants Chelsea have been linked with Schurrle for several years and they are now said to be ready to activate a €35million (£28.5m) contract release clause.

The Stamford Bridge club are reported to have tried to sign the player last summer and are now being linked with a £12million offer plus Kevin de Bruyne.

And Leverkusen executives will look at any interest they receive in Schurrle, who has scored nine league goals this season, or any of their squad.

Leverkusen general manager Rudi Voller told Deutsche Presseagentur: "We are receiving transfer enquiries every now and then.

"Andre Schurrle is not the only player of interest. It is obvious to have a look at those proposals. We also did that last summer."

But Leverkusen are also keen to avoid being drawn in to responding to all conjecture ahead of the summer transfer window.

Club executive Wolfgang Holzhauser told Reviersport newspaper: "At this point in time, there is so much said.

"There are many rumours. I would prefer not to be part of all this."

Chelsea to sign Bundesliga star

Chelsea look ready to sign German international Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen, according to ESPN.

Schurrle was reportedly targeted by the Blues before the start of the season, but was told to stay at his current club.

Corresponding reports in Bild and the Express claimed the 22-year-old, with seven goals in his last 22 games, is set to leave Leverkusen at the end of the season and join the Blues, the newspaper claims.

Swap

The left-winger could be part of deal involving Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne, who is currently on loan at Werder Bremen, heading in the opposite direction.

The Express reports that the West London club are willing to spend £26million on Schurrle, and in the deal with be the services of De Bruyne for a season long loan. However, Bild claims that the deal will be in the region of £12-15million.

“Every coach wants to keep the best players of his team,” Leverkusen boss Sami Hyypia told the press, as reported by the newspaper.

“We will certainly try and keep him. Andr has shown how important he is for us.

“If he performs like against Dusseldorf [where he scored a brace in Leverkusen's 4-1 last weekend], this would be very good.”

Interesting

Hyypia also said he is closely monitoring De Bruyne.

He added: “He is a good player. And good players are always interesting players.”

Leverkusen chief Wolfgang Holzhauser told the Express: “It stays that way: Kevin de Bruyne is an interesting player.”

When questioned by Bild, Schurrle refused to comment on his possible transfer to the Premier League.
