Borriello set for Roma return

Experienced striker Marco Borriello looks set to return to Roma in the summer, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

The 30-year-old is currently on loan at Genoa from Roma, and it was widely expected that his stay at Stadio Luigi Ferraris would be made permanent in the summer.

However, the latest reports seem to suggest that he does have a future at Stadio Olimpico after all.

The Giallorossi are set to cash in on Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, but rather than signing a new high-profile striker, they aim to give Mattia Destro a chance to shine.

With the talented forward still lacking in experience, Roma officials believe the return of Marco Borriello would be beneficial for the 22-year-old.

Borriello boast a wealth of Serie A experience, and while he still has several good years ahead of him, it is believed the former Milan and Juventus forward would be a good role model for Mattia Destro.

Manchester United set for transfer snub

Roma winger Erik Lamela is set to sign a new contract at the Stadio Olimpico and snub Manchester United in the process, according to Yahoo.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson sent his brother and scout Martin to Italy ten days ago where it was reported that he was checking on Roma’s 21-year-old, £25million-rated Argentina international during his side’s 2-1 win at Torino.

Rivals Manchester City are also thought to be interested in Lamela, who has thrived in an attacking role in Rome this season to become the club’s 17-goal top scorer at present.

However, it now looks like United’s attempts to lure the player to Old Trafford, possibly as a replacement for Nani, will end in failure.

Reports coming out of Italy are claiming that former River Plate starlet Lamela will sign a new, improved five-year contract extension which will see him stay at Roma until summer 2018 and see his wages rise from £35,000-a-week to £50,000-a-week.

Totti up to 2nd in Serie A all-time goal-scoring

Francesco Totti has set his sights on becoming Serie A's all-time leading goalscorer after moving up to second on the list.

The Roma legend netted his 226th top-flight goal in a 2-0 win over Parma yesterday to go ahead of Gunnar Nordahl, who had spells at AC Milan and Roma.

Only Silvio Piola, who scored most of his 274 goals for Roma's bitter rivals Lazio, is above him, 48 in front.

"Now my goal is to exceed Piola," the 36-year-old said on www.gazzetta.it.

The victory moved Roma level on points with fifth-placed Inter Milan and boost hopes of European qualification.

"I'm happy with the win," Totti added. "I think it was the wonderful evening we all wanted. We were so many points behind Inter, now we are level on points."

Roma boss Aurelio Andreazzoli, appointed until the end of the season following the departure last month of Zdenek Zeman, praised Totti's influence.

"Totti? It's always much easier with him around, he makes difficult things look easy," he said on the club website.

Totti also wants Andreazzoli to remain in charge beyond the end of the season.

"Totti has said that if we continue like this he'd like me to continue as coach next season?" added the boss.

"The captain buying into it is very important, of course, but he's biased: he's my buddy."

De Rossi banned for three matches

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi has been handed a three-match ban following his straight red card against Lazio at the weekend.

De Rossi was dismissed by referee Gianluca Rocchi in the closing seconds of the first half after he slapped Lazio's Stefano Mauri.

The Lega Serie A frowned on the Italy international's actions and slapped him with a suspension.

The 29-year-old was already dropped from the Italy squad by national team coach Cesare Prandelli following his red card, and he will now have to watch Roma's next three league games from the stands too.

His suspension means that De Rossi misses Serie A matches versus Torino, Pescara and Siena.

Roma coach Zdenek Zeman will also be without the likes of Nicolas Burdisso and Panagiotis Tachtsidis against Torino as the duo were handed one-match bans after they both received their fourth yellow card of the season against Lazio.

Juventus destroy Roma

Juventus have destroyed Roma 4-1 after jumping out to a three-goal lead in the first 19 minutes to move clear at the top of Serie A.

Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal, Alessandro Matri and Sebastian Giovinco scored for the reigning champions in a dominant performance on Saturday.

With Roma head coach Zdenek Zeman, a notorious critic of Juventus, in Turin for the first time since taking over the capital club, Juventus seemed inspired to punish the visitors.

Zeman, who infamously claimed in the 1990s while coach of Roma that Juventus used blood doping, watched his team fall apart under an early onslaught from the home side.

Pirlo gave Juventus the lead in the 11th minute when his free-kick curled into the bottom corner and five minutes later Vidal slotted home a penalty after Roma defender Leandro Castan handled the ball in the box.

In the 19th minute, Matri completed Juventus' early blitz when he controlled Vidal's aerial pass on his chest and then finished expertly to give his team a 3-0 lead.

Roma striker Pablo Osvaldo's penalty in the 69th minute, conceded by Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci for a blatant foul on Mattia Destro, gave Zeman's team a glimmer of hope but in the final minute Giovinco finished off a counter-attack with a goal from a tight angle to secure a big win.

Juventus had 20 shots and eight on target, while Roma only forced three saves from Gianluigi Buffon from 12 attempts.

The win puts Juventus on 16 points after six matches with Napoli second on 13 points, although they are still to play this weekend.

In the other Serie A match, Parma stole a 1-1 draw at home despite visitors Milan dominating the match.

Milan had 60 percent possession and nine shots on target to two but could only manage one goal for the match, with Stephan El Shaarawy putting Massimo Allegri's side in front in the 50th minute.

Parma claimed a draw after Daniele Galloppa equalised 16 minutes later.

Totti doubtful for Roma clash with Bologna

Francesco Totti could be a doubt for Roma's home fixture against Bologna at the Olympic Stadium this Sunday after suffering an ankle knock in training.

Roma said on their website www.asroma.it Thursday that Totti, who inspired his side to a 3-1 away win over Inter Milan two weeks ago, "withdrew from training early after bruising his ankle".

Although Zdenek Zeman's side are not considered as title contenders in Serie A, their display against Inter at the San Siro suggested they could be one of the surprise packages this season.

Argentine-born Italian Pablo Osvaldo has scored twice in two games so far and scored both goals in Italy's 2-2 draw against Bulgaria in a recent World Cup qualifier.

After two league games the Giallorossi sit fifth on four points having drawn at home to Catania on the opening day of the season.

Only four teams -- champions Juventus, Napoli, Lazio and Sampdoria -- have won both of the first two games so far.
